“I used to shout all the time. Now I listen.”
When we sat with Milla recently, she described her home before joining a Parent Support Group in a single sentence:
“I used to shout all the time.”
With seven biological children and three stepchildren, her days were filled with noise, conflict, and stress. Conversations often turned into quarrels. Planning together as a family felt impossible. She told us that her home was always on edge.
But during the PSG sessions, something began to shift. She learned the power of listening, communicating with patience, and sharing responsibilities with her husband and children. Slowly, the atmosphere in her home changed.
Milla told us, “Now I listen. My children talk to me, and my husband and I plan together. There is peace in my home.”
The impact has reached every corner of her family. Three of her older children who had dropped out of school are now working and supporting themselves. Her younger children are continuing their education. Meals together are calmer. Conversations are warmer. Decisions are made together.
For Milla, this peace has opened the door to possibility. She joined a savings group and has already saved more than she ever has before (about $100). Her goal next year is to purchased goats and school supplies for her kids—steps toward long-term stability.
Her story is one of many we heard this month. Homes that were once marked by conflict are now marked by connection. Parents who once felt overwhelmed are now leading with patience and purpose. Families are planning, dreaming, and rebuilding hope together.
