We think children deserve the best—and that’s the love, stability, and belonging that families provide. Otem Collective is on a mission to reshape the way the world cares for vulnerable children by placing families at the heart of the solution rather than relying on the residential care model. In Uganda, we strengthen families to care for their children and help orphanages move toward family-based care so more children can grow up at home.

Family separation is complex, which is why our work is built around three strategies that tackle family separation from multiple angles. By strengthening families, helping children return home whenever possible, and equipping others to embrace family-based care, we can help more children grow up in families.
Strengthen Families
We prevent family separation by equipping families with the skills, resources, and support needed to raise their children in stable, nurturing homes.
Reunite Children
When children have already been separated from family, we provide technical support and coaching to help orphanages safely reunite children with family.
Transform Care
We reshape systems of care by helping organizations and communities embrace family care, so residential care is no longer the default for vulnerable children.
